September not only saw the start of term for Aichi International School (AIS) students, but a number of sports projects also commenced. Kindergarten and elementary students prepared for the annual Sports Day, to be held on October 8. Students compete for their houses, in an attempt to be the winners of the illustrious AIS trophy.

Grade 3 and 4 students will have a field trip to Suzuka in October, where they will watch the practice sessions for the Japan Formula One Grand Prix. Students are hoping to catch glimpses of Jenson Button, Sebastien Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, and local hero Kamui Kobayashi.

During term one, Grade 3 and 4 students were involved in various projects with schools in both England and Wales. AIS students will continue to work with schools from the UK and all around the world with a focus on the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England. So far, students have exchanged letters, cards, origami, and paper-made kokeshi dolls, and hopefully this will continue throughout the autumn and winter months, as a mascot exchange is already planned between a number of schools. — MARK REED
