A kaleidoscope of creative musical expressions

At Hitokoe Yokohama International School (HYIS), for children as young as 17 months up to those who are six years old, rhythm and movement has always been part and parcel of an integrated curriculum that shapes the different facets of learning. The program caters to the students’ multiple intelligences and inherent talents that become apparent during these early years.

The Rainbow, Sunshine, and Super Kids classes display their creative expression through art, drama, and music, particularly in the field of steel pan drums. Under the fine tutelage of our professional steel pan instructor from Trinidad and Tobago — Mr. Michael “Manish” Robinson — the HYIS youngsters discover their own sense of rhythm and learn various beats on the drums. Throughout their years at HYIS, the students will receive plenty of other opportunities to experiment with and explore steel pan drums, as well as other instruments, and further develop their creativity along with their language skills.

The students will welcome autumn this month at their HYIS Circus Sports Festival and Picnic Day on Monday, October 13 at Kodomo Shizen Park. The school’s fall term campaign is still on — registration is open for the regular preschool for children aged 17 months to six years. The after-school and Saturday school English classes (ESL beginners to advanced) are accepting students from primary to high school. After-school classes are available in steel pan drums, piano, violin, dance, and karate. Spaces are also available in a new course on Business English. Please email the school at [email protected] or phone 045-363-3356. — PATRICIA ALDANA
