Hitokoe students donate to World Vision Japan

Hitokoe Yokohama International School (HYIS) helps the children of India and East Timor, by supporting their educational needs and supplies of safe, potable water. The school has been busy fundraising at events such as the Mothers’ Day Bake Sale and the Springy Spring Festival.

Five- and six-year-old students handed over ¥72,275 to World Vision Japan after giving a speech to the charity’s staff. They received a standing ovation, were presented with a plaque of appreciation from World Vision, and later enjoyed reporting back on the experience to their fellow students.

The school is keen to instill values such as compassion, generosity, and empathy in its young learners, and thus encourage students to give back to the community at large. — PATRICIA ALDANA
