When you hear the word ‘yoga’, what do you think of? Old men in robes looking like human pretzels perhaps? Research has shown that yoga has a variety of physical and mental benefits for people of all ages, especially for children.
Yoga has been proven to strengthen growing bodies, decrease stress, and develop fine motor skills and coordination. A consistent practice instills in children a quiet confidence and increases self-esteem and it has been shown to enhance concentration, increase attention span, and teach present moment awareness.
At TIK, we have successfully integrated weekly sessions with a certified yoga teacher into our programming. Children are engaged in lessons via animal and nature imagery, or narratives. This ensures that children gain the full benefits of yoga in a way that is creative and easily accessible. As one of our students said this week, ‘yoga classes are super duper fabulous fun’!
