Although English Studio International Kindergarten (ESIK) students just recently celebrated the 100th day of school, the school is already accepting enrolments for the next school year (starting April 2011).

ESIK is a three-year immersion and inquiry-based learning course that runs in conjunction with the Japanese school calendar. Students attend class for five hours per day from Monday to Friday. The first year is an English immersion class. Although many students begin with a very limited grasp of the language, they soon become comfortable in communicating with their teacher and classmates in English.

In the second year, ESIK’s inquiry-based learning approach is introduced, aiming to develop creativity, imagination, logical thinking, reasoning, and decision-making skills.

The final year of ESIK is a consolidation year. Students take the lead in choosing what and how they learn, building on their knowledge and language skills from the previous year. The students are able to explore new themes as well as familiar and favourite topics more independently, and articulate their thoughts and opinions more expressively.

On the 2nd and 3rd of December, ESIK will be holding two open days. Anyone interested in observing classes is invited to come along and see the students and faculty in action. For more information, please call 03-3712-3313 or email [email protected]. — SHANE THOMPSON
