TIS Cherry Blossom Fair

A huge crowd of school and local families at the TIS Cherry Blossom Fair. TOKYO INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

On Saturday May14th, Tokyo International School held its annual Cherry Blossom Fair in the school grounds in Mita. Delayed  because of the earthquake of March 11th the beautiful sunny day drew a huge crowd of school and local families who enjoyed 4 hours of fun, international food stalls, Bargain Bazaar, Book Stall and various games and entertainment like face painting and giant chess games. It was truly a happy day for the school community.

This year the proceeds, expected to be around ¥3 million, will go to the relief effort. An elderly woman from a nearby apartment block came to the gate and wept as she presented a small pot plant to a teacher in gratitude for the work the school has done to support Japan’s recovery from the earthquake and tsunami. Hundreds of boxes of food and supplies have been collected at the school in recent weeks through the TIS Disaster Relief Supply Centre in collaboration with Second Harvest and sent north.
